As we experience the early stages of the 21st Century, we realize these are changing times with rapidly changing business environments. We have to become more flexible in our business planning processes and most importantly, maintain the sense of urgency and proactive management that are a necessity to succeed in today's business world.

In order to benefit from business opportunities in our community (nowadays a global community since the worldwide acceptance of the Internet as a business tool to conduct business in the globe) we need to be proactive. Implementing change, fostering innovation and supporting invention among our employees and business colleagues, will always work in favor of our business. It will also help us to be better prepared for the next wave of business, the next revolution and, bottom line, our next business challenge. Chambers of commerce are business entities that do not escape this reality and must be prepared to deal with the changes taking effect, presenting alternatives to its constituents so they still perceive value from their affiliation. One of the main reasons we are evolving to a new era of business support!

Our team of Board of Directors, volunteers and office staff, works hard on taking the Chamber to the next level of success. In order to gain the most from great change and to guarantee success in our business objectives, we focus in three areas of work:

  • Business networking
  • Business recognition/exposure
  • Business developing opportunities

We are working in the design and implementation of strong action plans that are able to deliver outstanding results for the Chamber. However, outstanding results require outstanding skills to successfully excel in today's business world. Teamwork, leadership and business preparation are essential skills to a successful organization… We believe these are important assets of our Chamber.

We are working closely with businesses in our community, corporations, local and regional governments, local institutions of higher education, community leaders, also other chambers of commerce, and Hispanic organizations, to fulfill our mission of providing leadership and support the economic development of the Hispanic business community of Metro Orlando.

Overnight success formulas are unreal in modern business structures. To achieve strong success in our organization, Chamber stakeholders need to engage in a journey of hard work and involvement, bringing lots of invention, inspiration and innovation breakthroughs. Once all of these ingredients are in place, we'll have a guaranteed successful formula for our business community.

Lastly, I want to share my thoughts on Change… Change is simple, change is necessary, change is great … It provides us with the opportunity to reshape the way we do things and try new methods, but as an old German proverb says, "To change and to change for the better are two different things". Let's work together to change for the better and learn from the upcoming challenges we will face in our future business performance.

Gracias,

Ramon A. Ojeda
President
Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Metro Orlando

  • The Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Metro Orlando (HCCMO) originated as a result of a merger between two separate and distinct Chambers of Commerce: The Latin Chamber of Commerce of Central Florida, Inc., and the Puerto Rico Chamber of Commerce of Central Florida.

  • Recognizing the similarities of objectives between these two Chambers, and to strengthen the representation of all Hispanic businesses, these organizations merged and became known as the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Central Florida, effective February 1st, 1993

  • In 1995, the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Central Florida founded the Hispanic Business Initiative Fund (HBIF) in Orlando. HBIF was first created in Tampa in 1990, and 1995 adopted in Orlando, to provide quality bilingual and bicultural technical assistance to the Hispanic business community. HBIF provides technical assistance free of charge to budding Hispanic entrepreneurs and already established Hispanic-owned businesses through its one-on-one approach, and a variety of other business development programs

  • Today, the HCCMO is the principal representative entity of all Hispanics in the community. In 1996, 1999, 2001 and 2005, the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce awarded the HCCMO as the “Large Hispanic Chamber of the Year” for the Southeast of the United States

  • In 2003, the organization changed its name from the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Central Florida to The Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Metro Orlando; the use of the brand name Orlando will enhance the marketing of the organization and Hispanic businesses of the region in a more global scope

  • In 1999, the HCCMO and the Orlando Regional Chamber of Commerce established a partnership to promote networking opportunities, educational forums and roundtable discussions between members of both organizations

  • In 2002, the HCCMO was awarded regional and national “Large Hispanic Chamber of the Year” by the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, for exemplary commitment to advancing Hispanic business opportunities in the United States

  • In 2003, the HCCMO hired its first time ever full-time President to enhance the Chamber’s leadership role for the Hispanic business community in Metro Orlando

  • By the end of 2005, the Hispanic Chamber surpassed the 1,000 membership level with a record number of chamber members actively participating in chamber initiatives at 1,054 by the turn of the year

  • In May of 2006, the flagship event of the chamber, the 13th Annual Hispanic Business & Consumer Expo achieved exceptional results, attracting over 25,000 attendees, 425 participating organizations and close to 600 exhibitions, making it the biggest Hispanic business and consumer expo in the entire nation

  • In July of 2006, the Hispanic Chamber was awarded “Chamber of the Year” and “Event of the Year” for the 8th Annual Don Quijote Awards by the Florida Association of Chamber Professionals, an organization that represents over 150 chambers of commerce through out the State of Florida

  • The Hispanic Chamber is poised to meet the challenges of the 21st Century through the celebration of diversity, which will unite the Hispanic community around its common goals and values
